Introduction
An article by Mousa and Alas (2016) aimed at examining correlations between workplace spirituality and organizational commitment in Egyptian public schools. The article provides information about the first known research in the African region that touches upon the matter. The researchers used a questionnaire based on the three-dimensional model of organizational commitment (affective, continuance, and normative) and previously created an instrument to measure workplace spirituality. The acquired data was used to test three hypotheses using regression analysis in the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The analysis revealed that spirituality was significantly correlated with workplace commitment.
Main body
The research provides significant insights into how workplace commitment can be enhanced using rigorous quantitative methods. The utilization of quantitative methods is associated with high reliability of findings, especially if appropriate methods are used. The authors of the article utilized proper statistical analysis, as regression and Pearson’s R coefficient are suitable methods for correlational studies. However, it is unclear if methods used to gather data were appropriate, as the authors do not discuss the validity and reliability of instruments.
Conclusion
The research findings are important to the field of education as they provide additional evidence that workplace spirituality affects organizational commitment. Moreover, it is the first study of such design in the African region, which helps to close the gap in the current body of knowledge. The results of the research can be used to design interventions to improve commitment to schools among teachers. The article can be referenced to develop the methods of my future research and make hypotheses.
