Mentors should use powerful concepts in order to support the needs of their clients. Parents, teachers, and workmates can become effective trainers or mentors. Such individuals can use different techniques in order to mentor their targeted individuals. Coaching and mentoring “are powerful practices that assist individuals to realize their potentials, objectives, and goals” (Passmore, 2010, p. 23).
The coaching process succeeds if every individual supports the best values and practices. Some values and concepts are required in order to produce the best outcomes. Trainers and mentors “should possess various skills such as effective communication, listening, problem-solving, and decision-making” (Passmore, 2010, p. 24). This discussion identifies the major practices that can support the best coaching or mentoring practices. The essay also identifies several strategies that will address the challenges encountered by the targeted client.
Examining “Active Listening” and Encouraging “Self-Challenge”
Mentors should embrace the best traits and concepts in order to empower their clients. Many people have their own mentors and trainers. Many instructors encourage their clients to embrace the best practices in order to achieve their goals in life. Coaching and mentoring are powerful practices that can produce the best goals. This strategy will eventually produce the targeted goals. Active listening is a useful skill possessed by every successful individual.
According to Passmore (2010, 24), “active listening is a powerful process whereby both the listener and the speaker engage in an informative communication session”. The listener must be attentive in order to acquire the ideas and skills presented by the speaker. The speaker should also “listen carefully in order to address the issues raised by his or her client” (Passmore, 2010, p. 76). This process makes it easier “for the listener to understand both the unspoken and spoken ideas” (Nash, Sproule, & Horton, 2009, p. 230).
Mentors encourage their clients to embrace “the concept of self-challenge” (Passmore, 2010, p. 64). The concept is relevant because it empowers individuals to address the problems affecting their potentials. Self-challenge is a powerful practice that “encourages individuals to push themselves and work harder in order to achieve their goals” (Passmore, 2010, p. 76). This concept empowers “individuals to reexamine their situations and identify better ways to emerge successful” (Nash et al., 2009, p. 235).
This “effort should be intrinsic in order to produce the anticipated outcomes” (Passmore, 2010, p. 78). The “individuals should empower themselves and embrace every new skill in order to become self-motivated” (Nash et al., 2009, p. 235). Self-challenge is relevant because it encourages individuals to widen their potentials and goals. This concept “has made it possible for many individuals to address their challenges” (Passmore, 2010, p. 87). The practice encourages more people to reinvent themselves in order to achieve their goals.
Listening to the Podcast Scenario
The targeted client is currently encountering numerous problems. For instance, the individual is undertaking various projects with her teammates. The client also attends various sporting events and activities. The client’s projects have been consuming most of her time. The targeted client is also undertaking several roles as a member of the Community Council (CC). The client has been unable to achieve the best goals because of her tight schedule. The client also wants to support the needs of her workmates and family members.
Five Follow-Up Questions that Would Promote Further Insights into My Client’s Situation: Developing a “Learning Relationship”
Instructors should develop effective learning relationships with their clients. The “first step that can make a coach successful is the ability to listen attentively” (Nash et al., 2009, p. 235). The second step is identifying the issues affecting the targeted client. This process will “equip the targeted client with the best lessons and ideas” (Nash et al., 2009, p. 235). The presented podcast scenario encourages me to address the client’s situation. The questions presented below will make it easier for me to promote further insights into my client’s situation.
- What are the major issues and problems encountered by the client?
- What coaching and mentoring techniques will promote the most appropriate learning relationship and produce the best goals?
- How can the targeted client embrace the concept of “priority” in order to support her roles in a professional manner?
- What advices and incentives can make empower the targeted client in order to achieve her goals and learn the best lessons from her experiences?
- How can the newly-established learning relationship produce the best goals in order to support the client?
Developing a “Learning Relationship”
The best strategy in order to achieve my goals as a coach is “by ensuring that the client is happy with the new learning relationship” (Connor & Pokora, 2012, p. 74). I will use powerful coaching concepts and skills in order to support her needs. I will listen carefully and attentively in order to understand the unique challenges faced by the client. I will also “speak without interruption in order to have a fruitful mentoring session” (Nash et al., 2009, p. 231). Mentors and instructors should also “embrace the best ethical ideas and considerations in order to support the expectations of their clients” (Connor & Pokora, 2012, p. 48).
This exercise will also produce the best goals. I will encourage my client to address the challenges affecting her goals. I will embrace various skills “such as problem-solving and effective communication in order to produce a successful relationship” (Connor & Pokora, 2012, p. 89). A good coach must use “the best concepts in order to produce the best goals” (Connor & Pokora, 2012, p. 86).
I will ensure the relationship is professional. Different “moral principles will ensure the relationship is successful” (Connor & Pokora, 2012, p. 84). I will also use a reflective strategy in order to address the challenges affecting my client. The proposed approach will make it easier for me to produce an effective strategic plan. Mentors should embrace various competencies and skills in order to achieve their goals.
Brief Explanation as to How the Above Questions Will Accomplish this Task
The important thing is to ensure the client benefits from the mentoring process. The targeted learning relationship will make it easier for the employee to realize her potentials and goals. The above questions will make it easier for me to support the needs of this client. I will use the first question to examine the major issues and problems encountered by the targeted client (Nash et al., 2009). I will use this knowledge in order to address the ethical issues associated with my client’s career. I will also use the first question to prioritize the challenges affecting the client.
The problems identified in the first question will produce better coaching techniques in order to support the client. I will also use “appropriate communication and interaction skills in order to support the issues affecting the client” (Connor & Pokora, 2012). I will use the third question to fulfill the expectations of my client. I will also encourage my client to prioritize her problems. The client will be able to understand the nature of her problems. I will also equip her with the best values and strategies in order to deal with such problems. I strongly believe that this question will encourage the client to focus on the best outcomes.
I will use the fourth question to outline the best incentives and advices that can produce quality outcomes. The important goal of “every mentoring and coaching method is to support the targeted client” (Connor & Pokora, 2012, p. 42). I will highlight the best advices and concepts in order to empower the client. I will also encourage her to listen attentively and embrace the presented recommendations. This question will eventually support the goals and expectations of the targeted client. The fifth question will summarize the issues associated with the mentoring process. I will embrace the best skills and ideas in order to produce the best learning relationship.
Concluding Remarks
Every person wants to achieve the best goals in life. However, such goals cannot be realized without having an appropriate mentor or instructor. This situation explains why different individuals hire professional instructors in order to achieve their goals. Mentors should engage in acceptable and moral practices whenever supporting the needs of their clients. Mentors should also embrace “the concept of active listening in order to understand the issues affecting their clients” (Passmore, 2010, p. 93).
According to Passmore (2010, p. 74), “active listening makes it easier for mentors to ask questions and empower their clients”. This approach makes it easier for every targeted client to learn new lessons and ideas. The above discussion identifies various questions that can be applied in different situations. Such questions can encourage mentors and instructors to produce the best strategic plans. Such plans can eventually produce powerful learning relationships.
