Getting an education in the Bachelor of Criminal Justice program means having a specific mission, a task that goes beyond earning finances. Any work stemming from this type of education implies a desire to help people and society, protect others and find a professional niche for this. There are several functions that a criminological graduate can perform, internal and external. Work in internal criminological structures can be represented by police professionals from a forensic scientists to an investigator. Students with leadership skills can apply their newly acquired skills as emergency managers or community workers. Criminological justice represents a whole range of diverse professions, each of which has an obvious benefit to society. Having tried to consider the whole list of opportunities, I plan to select the most relevant to my personality, and academic and career aspirations. However, in general, it must be remembered that the main mission of any student of criminology is to help society and ensure its safety.
A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice can open up a wide range of career opportunities in a wide variety of disciplinary fields. Criminal justice professionals may be required among police officers, as well as detectives, private investigators, and probation officers. Knowing the history of the American criminal justice system gives a complete perspective on how throughout history Americans have fought and prevented crime. The historical perspective can provide the necessary precedent base for solving similar legal problems. Also, the graduate may have the opportunity to independently read this course, working as a teacher in this university environment.
The sociological aspect considered within the framework of any criminological course is also fundamental. Through the study of sociology, it becomes possible to determine the causes that can form a criminal or induce a person to a crime. Criminal sociology, if one has a solid enough grasp of it as a scientific discipline, can help develop scientific tools for crime reduction. Knowledge of certain social strata and urban conditions can serve to develop preventive measures or initiatives that improve the quality of life (Sloan III, 2019). Thus, this branch of criminology can be extremely useful to society in my work after graduation.
The practical teaching methods available in this bachelor’s program also contribute to the subsequent civil and administrative practice of the graduate. The opportunity to be involved in society through practice provides the necessary experience to apply the acquired skills in the community or public services. Speaking about the darker aspects of criminal justice, the acquired skills could be applied in the direction of forensic criminology, that is, examining crime scenes to find evidence and evidence. The course should include learning the necessary technologies for analyzing evidence and conducting a criminal investigation procedure.
Personally, in the academic criminological environment, I am attracted to professions that are more related to human resource management. In general, I can say that I am not only sociable but also a balanced and stress-resistant person, able to correctly articulate myself in any situation. Based on this, I assume that a job as a probation officer could easily suit me. This profession involves helping to return criminal individuals to normal civilian life. The ability to help a person and adapt them to live in society seems to me proof of the inherently non-evil nature of people. The knowledge of sociology, criminology, and psychology given in this bachelor’s course can provide the foundation necessary to positively influence people through such a vocation.
