E-Portfolios as a Tool to Enhance Student Learning

E-Portfolio

E-portfolio is a deliberate compilation of student’s work that demonstrates the their efforts, growth, and accomplishments in one or more areas (Slepcevic-Zach and Stock, 2018). Therefore, for a graduate student, it is a collection of apprentice’s work that is maintained electronically and can be used for assessment, exhibition, and/or communication. In addition, an e-portfolio for the advanced practice nurse is an assemblage of the nurse’s professional achievements that is conserved by electronic means and can be utilized for credentialing, career planning, and/or marketing (Slepcevic-Zach and Stock, 2018).

Importance and Purpose of E-portfolio for Graduate Student

E-portfolios are becoming increasingly popular as a way for graduate students to showcase their academic and professional achievements. They can be a powerful tool for demonstrating one’s skills and, accomplishments to potential employers and graduate programs (Mapundu and Musara, 2019). A well-crafted portfolio can also help one reflect on their progress and identify areas of improvement based on what they do daily.

Contents of E-Portfolio

A graduate student’s e-portfolio should include a variety of content that reveals their academic and professional achievements. This can include papers and presentations from coursework, research projects, and internships (McGonigle and Mastrian,2018). Involving diversity of content in the site can display a student’s range of skills and abilities, as well as their growth and development over time. When a scholar puts variety of content in an e-portfolio, it can help them showcase their knowledge. For example, if a learner embraces both written and video content, it can show that they are able to communicate effectively in multiple formats. Furthermore, if they upload a mix of content from different classes, it can exhibit that they are able to apply what they have learned in one area to another. Putting a range of content in the platform can also indicate that the student is able to curate and manage a large amount of information, which can be a valuable skill in and of it.

Advanced practice nurses should include a variety of information in their e-portfolios to demonstrate their proficient competence and value to potential employers. This can comprise of evidence on their clinical experience, educational background, research interests, and any professional awards or recognition they have received (McGonigle and Mastrian,2018). Involving a well-rounded selection of content in the site can help them stand out from the competition and secure the best job opportunities. That can be done by providing a more complete picture of the APN skills and abilities. By posting a range of content, nurses can exhibit their capacity to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively. Additionally, a well-rounded e-portfolio can aid to display the nurse’s capability to use technology to improve patient care.

Future Use of E-Portfolio

In future, the students will use the e-portfolio as a tool to reflect on and document their professional growth and development as nurses. The platform will also be used to showcase the student’s clinical expertise and achievements to potential employers. As an APN, the students will continue to use it as a tool for marketing their clinical practice as they continue searching for jobs. Moreover, they can also use it as a means to communicate with their peers about areas of interest, and collaborate on new learning opportunities. By creating and sharing a portfolio, apprentices can show off their work, highlight their skills, and share their interests with others. Additionally, it can be used as a platform for discussion, allowing learners to ask questions, give feedback, and engage in dialogue with their nobles.

A student can use an e-portfolio as an advanced practice nurse (APN) in the future by creating one that includes evidence of their profession. It should include items such as resume, samples of advanced nursing practice, and letters of recommendation. The student should also keep records of their advanced nursing practice familiarities and continue to add them to their portfolio as they gain more experience. As an APN, one should intend to continue using the portfolio as means of reflecting on their specialization growth, documenting clinical proficiencies, and communicating with other APNs. In addition, it can be used as a mode for marketing one’s services to potential clients. Finally, the site can further be utilized to demonstrate the APNs commitment to work as well as promote individuals professional development.
