Engage in Self-Reflection via Membership in a Professional Community

Introduction

In this video, we look at how incorporating formative evaluation into game-based learning might improve students’ academic results. The term “game-based learning” refers to a method of instruction that uses video games to facilitate student learning and development.

Discussion

In this clip, children are seen playing Galaxy Mappers, a game in which they must use their understanding of geography and the environment to complete a series of assignments set by their instructor. These requirements are contained in a larger assignment. This assignment will be completed as part of a bigger task. In the context of a larger project or assignment, students take a step to hone a certain talent or show that they have internalized a particular idea. In a video, a teacher may give pupils assignments related to their maps, such as drawing a line between two continents or showing how to tell north from south.

Incorporating learning objectives into larger projects or activities is called “embedding.” This assignment may help students better understand how their work contributes to the bigger picture. An embedded assignment helps students see how the knowledge or abilities they are gaining fit into the bigger picture of the project. This may keep students interested in their work and help them learn the content more deeply. Embedded assignments also allow educators to conduct more thorough evaluations of their student’s progress in learning. Teachers can see how well students comprehend fundamental ideas and abilities by analyzing their work on the embedded assignment.

Conclusion

Teachers may use this information to evaluate their students’ work better and provide them with more specific criticism. These methods, while also being enjoyable for students, would be vital for gauging their overall development and enhancing their learning experience.
