Interactive Read Aloud for Children

Interactive read alouds are an interesting and engaging way of introducing literature to kids. Reading and listening are two of the skills most needed by young children, but are also the ones the most difficult to learn. Cultivating a desire to read and good abilities from a young age is necessary, as that gives the children an ability to properly adjust and familiarize themselves with how they should engage with literature. One of the promising and effective approaches to reading with young children is the read alouds. The process involves a teacher or a parent reading the story out loud to children, in an effort to make them understand its text and the messages the book tries to convey. This encourages better comprehension of material and gives the children that are not yet able to read fully by themselves to start understanding literature.

The use of interactive read-alouds, furthermore, can be beneficial to childhood development. Interactivity is one of the main benefits of the procedure, as it allows kids to keep attention on a singular thing, feel involved in a group effort and have fun. Studies on repeated reading to children show that by continuously exposing children to a single book, teachers can have the ability to increase their comprehension of the material, develop better vocabulary, and aid in their ability to engage with written material. The researchers on this matter explain: “These techniques have shown to be effective in increasing children’s engagement, understanding, and appreciation of literature in preschool and kindergarten settings.” A video on the subject brings up a similar array of points, emphasizing that the method of introducing literature to the young uses the children’s innate desire to respond to the text to create engagement. It is noted as the “one time when children can engage with language”
