Introduction
Business management program is one of the programs at Lakeshore Technical College. This is one of the technical colleges which equip its students with a wide knowledge on how to be business managers in their own organization. It offers many programs which are business related so it’s upon the students to chose the program in which they can fit in, depending on the program outcome. General business managers are said to be found in at least every working place. This is out of the roles in which these managers usually play in the running of the various companies they work for.
This program is said to provide a wide knowledge to learners on how to become owner managers and run their business well through the various policies they establish in these companies. This program is said to train students for a career as an operations assistant or even entry level manager in a variety of businesses and also in industry organizations. The course is also said to broaden various opportunities for those people who are seeking job change in the market hence it’s said that it provides students with a wide knowledge of how to manage their own businesses hence leading to success in their lives. There are several careers which are found in this course and include the following. (Bennis and Joan 1997).

- Office administrator.

In this paper, am going to talk about the programs outcome which is offered in this college under the business management program.
Take a leadership role in today’s team-oriented work environment
Business management is one of the programs which are offered in this college. With management, it means that the students will be in a position to know the various marketing techniques which help many business ventures to succeed in their business. It is through marketing strategies that students are in a position to make marketing strategies for their business hence becoming a leader in their own businesses. It is through this that they will be in a position to make higher profits if they decide to be owner managers. Management program will also equip these students with leadership development and also take a leadership role in today’s team-oriented work environment.
It will allow the leaner to take and apply the various skills and also the necessary tools which are required by this leader in order to achieve his goals and objectives. A good leader is seen to lead other to achieve the set goals and objectives. So for this case, the outcome with this program is that the students will be in a position to know the various roles of a leader whereby they are supposed to apply these roles in their daily activities.
A good leader in this case should helps in policy making. In any organizations, you find that policies are very important since it’s through these policies that the organization can be run. Policies are seen as providing direction to the company. So, it is the role of the leader to help in establishing these policies to ensure that this organization is in a position to realize its set goals and objectives. So with a good course in marketing you find that these students will be in a position to be market leaders since they are in a position to make their own policies and strategies which will lead this company in achieving its goals and objectives. (Allen, and Cherrey, 2000).
Leaders in the workplace are important in managing participant enrollments and role assignments. The leader in this case is supposed to assign roles to the workers in this company. He is supposed to ensure that every worker is supposed to do whatever he /she is supposed to do at the right time. Also, he ensures that the work which has been assigned has been completed at the right time. It’s through this that most of the activities in this organization will be done hence leading to the improved performance of this company. So you find that in the real market, a student will be in a position to demonstrate the leadership skills and tools which are acquired through marketing classes hence leading to a great success in the real business. (Allen, and Cherrey, 2000).
The leader in this case is supposed to assign new members new roles. He ensures that all new workers to the company have got their respective roles. He also ensures that the new members are in a position to get the necessary material to do this job.
He also makes sure that the new workers have been oriented. Orientation in any organization is very much important. It is through orientation that the new members in this company will be in a position to know the company and actually what activities are done by this company. It is through this orientation that the new members will be in a position to work effectively. So, the leader in this case is supposed to ensure that these people are oriented through the company and it is after orientation that they will be assigned their respective roles. (Allen, and Cherrey, 2000).
Utilize skills in human relations
Business management program will offer students with good knowledge on the human relations. It is through human relations that learners are in a position to interact with others well hence leading to a great success in their daily activities. It is through human relations that managers will be in a position to develop good communication skills that will enable them to communicate well with their employees. They will be in a position to make strategic decisions through their knowledge in this program hence making them to organize their work well. Managers are seen as providing direction to the organization.
In this case, a manger is supposed to coordinate the activities of this organization. Through coordination, the manager is supposed to ensure that all the activities in this company are done correctly. So a good course in business management is supposed to provide these students with a wide knowledge on how to make the various decisions, how to interact with the employees. Good interaction is said to be one of the most important aspects which are required by managers. This is because if you don’t have good relations with your employees, then it means that there will be communication barriers which are supposed to affect the whole running of the organizations activities.
It’s through interaction with your employees and even customers that leads to good relations with them. For example, if you are running your own business, it’s through this course that you learn how to attract more customers in your business. This is realized when one has good communication skills that will make the customers to be attracted in your business. At the end of the day, you will realize that you are making more profits than when you don’t have good communication skills.
So you find that business management will provide people with skills that will enable then to succeed in their daily activities. It will also provide skills and tools that are necessary to effective value and apply your employee’s abilities and needs to the organizational goals. By utilizing the human relations skills, you find that managers are also in a position to counsel their employees whenever mistakes arise. It’s through communication that the manager will be in a position to call the employees and counsel them on the areas that they need to improve. As a result, you find that the manager has build strong relationships with his employees are free to work in that organization hence leading to a greater output. (Block, 2000).
Plan, organize, and control management job functions
Business management program will also provide skills and the necessary tools to plan, organize and control management job functions. Good management is supposed to have several functions some of which include the following. One is planning skills. Management is supposed to have a good plan of the company. So if the manager has skills on business management you will find that he can properly plan for the companies activities. It’s through planning that this organization will be in a position to achieve its set goals and objectives. Proper planning incorporates planning for the organization activities, ensuring that the necessary resources are also available in this company.
The manager will also supervise and also assist the organization in making sure that quality products have been produced. So it is through skills in management that the manager will plan how these products are to be produced, the meaning and the various benefits of quality, the cost of quality and also problem solving tools for the continuous improvement will be covered by this manager. It’s also through good planning that the managers can manage their projects in the business environment. So it is through business management that managers will be in a position to plan, schedule and budget for their various projects hence leading to greater profits in these projects.
Another function is organizing the activities of the company. Good management skills are supposed to ensure that the activities of the organization are well organized. The manager through the skills he has in business management will be in a position to organize the activities of the company. He will be in a position to allocate the resources on where they are supposed to be, hence leading to the increased output for this company. A good example is organizing the resources of the company to ensure that the resources are fully utilized hence leading to greater profits. Another function in this case is resourcing. (Kim, 1999).
Resourcing in the sense that the manager ensures that all funds which are needed by the company are available and lastly is controlling and directing the activities of the company. Good management skills ensure that the activities of this company are controlled. It ensures that proper direction has been given by the organization through establishing of management strategies which are set policies by the company which are supposed to act as a direction to this company. So, you will find that this manager through the knowledge he has in business management will be in a position to control the activities of this company.
For example, the manager will control the resources which are used by this company. It’s through controlling of the resources that the resources will be effectively utilized by ensuring that only resources that are important are given first priority and the other later. (Kim, 1999).
Resolve conflicts and use problem solving strategies
Business management skills are also important in resolving conflicts which are said to occur in many organizations. So, in this case you find that a manger will be in a position to establish rules and regulations which are supposed to determine the relationship between the employees and the employer. This is because if in any organization there are no laid down rules and regulations, at the end the company will lead in to conflicts. its through management skills that students are taught various business ethics.
Business ethics can be said to be a form of art which includes applied ethics which follow ethical principles used to find solutions to moral and ethical problems which can arise in a business environment. These ethical problems are the ones which later lead to conflicts in these organizations. So this will provide a good understanding of the theoretical foundations of ethical thought. The diverse ethical issues/perspectives can now be used by the manager to compare and analyze the relevant issues that might arise when running this business.
So students will critically analyze and also evaluate the individuals social and their professional standards of behaviours and later apply a systematic decision making process to these issues. Also management skills will also help this manager to make certain strategies which are required to solve conflicts that arise when running the business. This is because conflicts are inevitable and keep on reoccurring. So you find that a student who has done a course in business management will be in a position to solve these conflicts and one of the strategies to be used in this case is through dialogue. If this manager has good communication skills, then you find that he will be in a position to address the employees in a language which they can understand and hence help in solving this conflict. (Block, 2000).
Multi-task and develop time management skills
Business management skills help students to have time management skills and also to develop multi-tasking. In this case it means that a manager who has done a course in business management will be in a position to do many activities at the same time. Here you find that he has differentiated roles which lead the company to increase in its production. He also has time management skills in that he is in a position to set good time on the activities of this company. Time is very much important in the running of an organization. This means that all activities are done in a schedule meaning that there is no conflict in the activities.
As a result, you find that this manager will be in a position to run his activities well. He is in a position to time and know the various changes in the market environment. One, he is in a position to know when the prices have fallen and also when these prices have risen. So when market prices are low, the time manager can hold his goods and produce them in the market when the prices are high. As a result, you find that he plans well for the marketing of his goods hence leading to higher profits since he plans well when to sell his products in the market and this is when the prices are high. (Bennis, and Joan, 1997).
A time manager is also in a position to be risk averse. In this case, he is in a position to plan for the various risks and uncertainties which occur when running the business. So when this manager plans well for the various risks which are said to be unknown, then it means that his business will keep running all the time since all the risks have been covered under his good management skills. (Bennis, and Joan, 1997).
Conclusion
Business management is a program which is facilitated at the lakeshore technical college. It is one of the programs which are thought to give students with a wide knowledge on how to become owner managers and how to manage their business well. It is through the skills that are achieved in this program that managers are in a position to plan, organize and also control the activities of his company. So, to conclude, business management is a good course which many students should be encouraged to undertake since one is in a position to become an owner manager.
