Public Education Mistakes in the United States

Introduction

American public education had great potential to become one of the best systems in the world. However, several errors were made during the implementation of the system. In addition, some reforms had a negative impact on the future, leading to some problems that significantly affected the quality of education. Some of the major problems are low diversity, outdated teaching methods and government inaction. This greatly aggravates the awareness of students who graduate from state institutions. The analysis of the educational process results has a low priority compared to its organizational process (Butsch et al., 2020). This is an essential issue for today’s reformers who are not taking active steps to improve the system.

In addition to the above factors, the attitude of parents towards school played a significant role in the deterioration of the education system. Involving them in the educational process is one of the keys to the successful preparation of children. Combining the efforts of parents in combination with the academic approach of teachers could be an excellent reinforcement for obtaining the necessary knowledge for students. Another problematic aspect is the overcrowding of educational institutions, which contributes to a decrease in the level of attentiveness. This problem has arisen from a lack of distribution and an increased flow of migrants (Contreras et al., 2019). All the described problems are a severe reason for the fall of the education system and the release of unprepared students. Many problematic moments are also related to lack of funding because the staffing of the classes is not at a high level. Previous investments in public institutions have paid for themselves quite a long time and are outdated, and new funding is not spelled out in the country’s budget.

The Reasons for the Failure and Opportunities for Recovery

The most significant problem of the existing ones is insufficient and incorrect funding of educational institutions. The reason for this problem lies in the fact that the state school funding system depends on taxes. The shortfall in the budgeting of public schools is due to the fact that taxes were weakened, and with them, the money for funding disappeared (Ɓlvarez et al., 2018). Thus, in order to resolve the issue of the distribution of money, it is necessary to start restructuring the system of subsidies. In addition, an important element that will normalize the learning process is its standardization with new learning rules that will have to be introduced. The opposing argument is that the system was not designed to change drastically and therefore it will take time to improve.

The decline in school funding has resulted in poor learning conditions for the system that vary widely. One of the problems is the understaffing of classrooms with the necessary school supplies. In computer classes, the equipment is outdated and does not meet the modern requirements of computer science (Ɓlvarez et al., 2018). This part is one of the most difficult to finance because the hardware is not cheap. However, its presence could significantly expand the possibilities of studying various subjects in schools.

An important and one of the main components of schools are teachers. Their indifference is another reason why the state of schools does not change for the better (Lynch, 2017). Their salaries are pretty low, and, as a result, they have no motivation to change. Without expressing a protest opinion, the authorities cannot understand which aspects of school staffing are problematic. Cutting support for low-income families is also an essential part of the problem, resulting in education becoming available to fewer children. The solution to the problems of school funding lies in the legislative area. An oppositional argument may be that most teachers receive small salaries and, as a result, they lack motivation.

Moreover, the field of education is affected by many other acts that have influenced the process of schooling. The migration laws were intended to help people in need but had the opposite effect. Due to the influx of refugees and migrants, the schools became overcrowded. In combination with insufficient funding, this problem has become more severe. The authorities accepting migrants did not take care of the children who would need to be educated. Low-income families are not always able to fully prepare their children for school or place them in private institutions. This created a situation in which many were spared the opportunity to receive a school education. Problems with the allocation of funds for the needs of schools and universities are partly due to the fact that they are distributed from local budgets through taxes (Sher, 2019). The federal government has little involvement in the allocation of resources, and therefore the authorities cannot objectively fully assess which institutions need funding. Thus, it turns out that areas with low real estate prices and low tax revenues will allocate fewer funds to schools and universities. Given the economic problems and the coronavirus pandemic, the situation with tax revenues has deteriorated many times over and, accordingly, the distribution of the budget.

In connection with the described problem of lack of financial resources, measures are needed that could correct the situation. Mentioned steps towards the normalization of the system may be its reformation taking into account the needs of schools. This will require the development of a detailed campaign, which will result in the staffing of schools with everything necessary and increasing the effectiveness of the teaching process. Reforming the education system in the United States must be comprehensive since most of the problems in it are interconnected (Young, 2018). From this, it follows that in order to meet all the necessary requirements for the preparation of legal acts, a special commission should be assembled to inspect schools. The possibilities for improving the existing situation can be significantly increased by getting schoolchildren and their parents into the activity to ask what is most important to them.

Conclusion

The effectiveness of training in the modern educational system is relatively low, which may indicate a poor level of control. In America’s schools, there are many aspects that need to be improved in order for children to feel more comfortable. The problem of financing in the educational sphere is one of the most significant, which is clearly felt by all service providers and their users. Because of this issue, the system needs a comprehensive reform approach that will be aimed at solving, first of all, problems with staffing offices. This must be done so that students can learn new subjects and topics. Accordingly, in the future, this may have a significant impact not only on the education process itself but also on its results. The current state of public schools in the United States is in bad state due to a long period of neglect. Starting to reform the school funding system can be an excellent start to eradicate all problems in the system.
