Resources for Parents on Learning Disabilities and Special Education

Learning Disabilities Association of America

LDA is a website that contains support and resources for parents. Visitors can find a variety of resources on the website about understanding learning difficulties, special education, and supporting themselves and their children. The website contains various resources, such as the LD Journal, their own podcast, guides, teaching and learning resources, and links to other information resources (“Learning Disabilities”, n.d.). For parents and professionals in this field, all of the resources above contain a wealth of information on learning impairments.

Center for Parent Information & Resources

CPIR is a network that helps families of children with disabilities by serving as a “hub” of information and resources between parent centers. There, parents can find research-based materials geared toward families on important themes for Parent Centers. Over 1,200 family-friendly resources on important themes for Parent Centers are available in the CPIR Resource Library (“Great Things”, n.d.). This includes fact sheets, training materials, guides for parents, information on early intervention and special education, and transition planning. Additionally, webinars on important subjects (such as early learning, evaluations, and the development of self-advocacy skills) are offered. Hence, CPIR’s resources have a high amount of relevant information for parents.

Federation for Children with Special Needs

FCSN supports parents as they navigate the special education landscape. Their website features the Media Center, an audio and video resource that provides information for families, kids, teens, and young adults on recognizing and managing children’s disabilities. Parents can learn about special education, access relevant resources, and even receive training on associated policies by calling a call center (“FCSN Media Center”, n.d.). Moreover, the organization provides training for parents of children with special needs and learning disabilities, including live meetings and conferences, as well as livestream webinars. Thus, FCSN provides both information and training for parents whose child is experiencing learning disabilities.
