The majority of the issues facing the modern world could be considered technological concerns which result from the rapid development of the scientific thought and implementation of numerous technologies into the various spheres of human activity. Besides, the usage of the new devices and technologies triggered the process of the reconsideration of the existing approaches and introduced the necessity of the creation of the new environment which will be able to satisfy the majority of the modern demands. The new approaches great positive impact on the efficiency and performance conditioned their wide usage in the most important spheres which contribute to the development of our society. Yet, the educational sphere also belongs to these very spheres. The appearance of the idea of smart education could be considered the main result of the usage of strangle of new technologies.
Yet, the term smart education implies the usage of the newest technologies and innovative devices to create the classroom that will have the great beneficial impact on the development of pupils skills and knowledge (“Smart Education” para. 1). The importance and positive impact of the given method are evidenced by the modern environment which conditions the necessity of the acquisition of skills needed to use all technologies. Additionally, the usage of this new approach provides numerous opportunities both for teachers and parents to monitor pupils successes and create the most appropriate and beneficial program. Finally, there are certain states which have already implemented this very method into their educational system and report its great practical use.
For instance, Finland could be taken as the state which has already successfully implemented the new system and now enjoys its results. Statistics show that “Finland has vastly improved in reading, math and science literacy over the past decade” (Hancock para.1). While analyzing the given tendency, specialists tend to highlight several important factors that conditioned achievement of this result. First, the state was among the first to reconsider its approach to learning and introduce the model of smart education. At the moment, Finland demonstrates the best results if to compare with the rest of the European states. Moreover, this approach implies the usage of the innovative technologies to guarantee the positive atmosphere and increased efficiency.
In these regards, it is evident that a number of leading countries also tend to implement the same model to improve their educational spheres. Yet, the UAE could be considered one of the modern leading states which reconsider the traditional and outdated approaches to attain success and obtain qualified specialists who will be able to contribute to the development of the local economy. Analyzing the situation in Abu Dhabi, it is possible to highlight several important trends peculiar to the state at the current stage. First, the process of implementation of the main aspects of smart education has already been initiated (Pennington para. 3). The majority of the local schools could be characterized by the strangle of technologies. Traditional books are replaced by tablets; smart boards are used to display thoughts and the main information, etc. It is obvious that the given environment should be considered as the first step towards the creation of the new model of education (“Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Program. Our Vision” para. 4). Moreover, the development of the Smart Learning Programme initiated in the 2012 (“About The Program” para.1) also promote the creation of the new and efficient model.
When speaking about smart education, it is also crucial to mind the contribution of the giant international corporations like IBM, Apple, Google, etc. to the development of the given sphere. It is obvious that being the main manufacturers of digital devices these companies are interested in the promotion of the new model as it will guarantee the increased demand for their products. That is why Google or IBM also focus on the creation of the technologies that will contribute to the development of the given issue. Comparing these companies contribution, it is vital to outline several aspects. First, Google creates a number of applications which help students in terms of the smart classroom and provide numerous opportunities for their further development (Meyer para. 2). IBM also follows the given pattern and suggests numerous opportunities for online education. For instance, The IBM KidSmart Early Learning Programme provides the opportunity to experiment with informational technology while improving numeracy and literacy (“Smart Education” para. 6). Additionally, both companies cooperate with governments to suggest their products needed for the development and implementation of smart education.
Altogether, the rapid evolution of digital technologies predetermined the reconsideration of the approaches towards learning. Numerous states could be characterized by the attempts to use the model of smart education to improve the efficiency of their educational sector and guarantee the better outcomes. Yet, the UAE also tends to reorganize the functioning of its educational establishments to satisfy its needs for the qualified specialists. Finally, great international corporations also contribute to the evolution of this idea as it could guarantee great benefits for them.
