Systemic success is based on effective talent acquisition among various sports organizations. The appreciative inquiry approach is applicable in different fields, including sports. Clement et al. (2020) explore the application of the approach in sports organizations for talent acquisition and change within the national talent development system. The study involves the adoption of an Appreciative approach by coaches to identify a change ‘route map’. The study results showed that the approach has a generative capacity, making it a challenge for the coaches. Additionally, the researchers found that key themes for optimal development environments were common. The themes of leadership, coach-athlete relationship, and player autonomy are crucial for success. Although the research provides an application of the approach in the sporting field, it failed to give a comparative analysis of other approaches to determine why the adopted one was the most effective. Therefore, it would be significant for the research to list and discuss the benefits of the Appreciative approach in sports.

While the Appreciative approach has an array of applications, some researchers have integrated it into their study designs. Villarosa et al. (2022), explore effective implementation strategies for children’s growth assessment guidelines in the dental setting. According to the researchers, dental staff plays an interdisciplinary role in addressing overweight and obesity. Therefore, it is important to code guideline implementation strategies for children’s growth assessment and dietary advice guidelines in the dental setting. The study utilized an Appreciative inquiry approach through a series of four two-hour focus groups with dental staff and parents.

The approach encouraged the researchers to focus only on positive factors. Consequently, the research had a few points of disagreement, leading to the effective identification of implantation strategies. Villarosa et al. (2022) provide a mechanism for integrating the approach in research for effective strategy identification. However, the researchers failed to provide a precise rationale for the Appreciative approach. It would be crucial for Villarosa et al. (2022) to state the significance of the approach when compared to the qualitative study design.
