Horseplay is a rather common and dangerous issue for a lot of schools. While it may have light-hearted intentions, it is oftentimes a cause of serious injuries and fights. This action ranges from slightly shoving someone into a locker, holding a pencil on one’s seat or a punch in the face. In a best case scenario, the injuries may be rather light, but in a worse turn of events, the other person may have to go to a hospital for treatment. Fights happen after horse playing because the seemingly fun action escalates into a serious conflict, as one of the students in the event responds aggressively after losing their patience, misinterpreting it or the “horse player” taking it too far. This escalation can result in a student’s suspension, as it progresses from a misguided prank to a serious confrontation, violating the school’s disciplinary rules.
Another issue with horseplaying is that students may miss out on crucial information during class, which, in turn, will negatively affect their performance at school. Their focus may shift from their teacher’s valuable explanations to their classmate slightly punching them in the arm or poking them with a pencil. The student’s grades may deteriorate, becoming another reason for teachers to take disciplinary action against the deed. Due to the aforementioned consequences of horseplaying, it is banned in multiple schools Thus, possible conflicts may be avoided, and the students will be encouraged to seek safer means of entertainment during recess, while preserving their productivity during the lessons.
