The Problems English Teachers Face in Riyadh Schools

Significance of Research

Topics of lack of time for teachers of English and a low level of awareness among parents are of great importance, both locally and internationally. First of all, it is worth noting that a similar structural problem of the educational system is relevant not only for Saudi Arabia but also for many other countries, both developed and developing. The study of the poor-time issue, especially with such a qualitative method as an in-depth interview, can provide an opportunity to find out the specific nature of the difficulties faced by English teachers. Parents’ concerns about cultural substitution are also relevant not only to many countries but also to ethnic minorities who live in English-speaking states.

This work is of great interest to many specialists, especially for those who work in the field of school education, child and family psychology. The structural, cultural, and psychological cause-and-effect relationships of time constraints and a low level of awareness presented in this paper will help them develop competent educational reforms and enlightening programs.

Expected Results

One of the many expected results of this study is to identify the difficulties of teaching English in particular related to the structure of school schedules and the degree of interest of students in the subject. Another important goal is to identify the strengths, weaknesses, and characteristics of the various methods of working with students. Expected results also include the assessment of success and an indication of possible problems in the framework of cultural exchanges and their incorporation, as well as the identification of various techniques for implementing these processes.

Based on theoretical and practical components, cultural, educational, and personal reasons for the low level of awareness among parents of Riyadh students regarding the English language will be revealed. One more aim is to propose several approaches to raise awareness and reduce the concerns of parents of students in Riyadh schools. This study will also suggest some of the measures to improve the effectiveness of teaching English with an emphasis on methods of additional self-education for students.
