Role of Music
Music is an art that fulfills many different purposes. Despite the common perception of the craft as a course of entertainment, there are actually many benefits to introducing music into the lives of people. Both listening and playing music engages the human body on a variety of levels, helping individuals to develop emotionally, physically, mentally and socially. Credible research exists to prove this fact, as many specialists sought to better understand the role of music in society. According to the book Music and Music Education in People’s Lives (McPherson & Welch, 2018), children who have been exposed to music tend to show higher levels of intelligence, as shown by their academic performance. In addition, the process of music training and education also improves motor skills, reaction, and capacity to distinguish sounds.
The many potential benefits of music have been recognized by scientists and educators alike, who worked to promote engagement with music concepts in schools, kindergarten and even places of higher education. Parents understand the value of the practice as well, and often use music to encourage better early development in their offspring. Another important facet of music as a catalyst for development is its influence on creating a common understanding of cultural values, national legacy and history (Khasanova, 2020). Through engaging with music in schools, attending lessons together, children form a general understanding of what kinds of music their culture considers significant. As a result, they are able to form personal relationship with the music distinctive to their background, and better mesh with other members of said culture. In this way, music serves as a tool of cultural cohesion.
Role of Movement
Movement, and physical activity as a whole, is another practice that has many different benefits for the rounded development of people. While the emergence of new technology and better production has allowed many to live a relatively sedentary lifestyle, engaging in different types of physical fitness exercises on a regular basis is important. The process allows the human body to remain strong and resistant to various types of threat, including stress, disease, emotional and physical strain. What is vital, then, is that movement plays a large role in improving human development during childhood. According to current research, both sport practice and physical activity have a heightened capacity to improve one’s emotional intelligence (Ubago-Jiménez et al., 2019). In this vein, individuals that are able to exercise and move to a sufficient degree become better able to control, express and understand their emotions.
In addition, movement is beneficial for the educational field. It is both a tool of improving education, and one of its central facets. The inclusion of PE lessons in school curriculums, and an increasing implementation of physically-engaging teaching practices is extremely important. It works to promote physical wellness and contributes to a better quality of education for all students. Some papers on the subject were able to link the prevalence of physical movement in school settings to higher levels of achievement, while also discussing the role of the practice on education attainment (Davidson, 2019). Overall, physical movement has been shown as capable of enhancing the learning process. Through its inclusion, educators are able to help children grow in a well-rounded manner, understand themselves and other people better.
