Training Plan for Learning French

The goals of this training plan are:

  1. To reach level A2 in French in three months.
  2. To learn the alphabet, basic grammar rules, and lexis.
  3. To be able to understand primary everyday phases.
  4. To recognize French speech and reproduce short dialogues.

This training plan is developed for learning the French language for three months until one reaches the A2 or elementary level. Usually, 120 hours of training are necessary to reach this level. This is a self-learning course, so one needs much intrinsic motivation to achieve the set goals. Most people who want to master a new language face the fear of failure in learning; many believe that languages are not for everyone and that only a few individuals can be polyglots. However, language is a skill that can be developed like any other skill.

The first step of the training plan presumes to determine a level of perception: auditory (memorizing by ear), visual (trusting one’s vision), kinesthetic (sensitive experience), or discreet (perceiving the world with the help of logic). This classification will allow for choosing the best means of learning French. Since I belong to the category of visuals, I will be more susceptible to learning by watching videos and using audiovisual materials, including flashcards, pictures of objects and phenomena, and other similar images.

The second step of the program presumes to learn the alphabet and phonetics. Due to the relative difficulty of French pronunciation, it is necessary to learn letter combinations and repeat words and phrases. In general, recognizing the sounds is vital for studying the reading rules as well. At this stage, I will use such training methods as demonstrations and lectures because they provide a structural approach to mastering any skill. As a reference, I will use the YouTube videos in order to repeat the letters and the words after the speaker. I found the YouTube channel dedicated to learning French. By watching these visual materials, I will improve my pronunciation and develop articulation.

The most crucial step is the third one since it refers to learning grammatical rules. Task-related exercises and activities will be used as a secondary method of language acquisition. Typically, grammar is easy to obtain when practicing regularly; hence, it is crucial to complete the topic-related exercises. There are many online platforms that offer a wide range of activities for learning French; therefore, I will use any of them to practice grammar. This stage is time-consuming since the rules of any language are confusing and need to be learned thoroughly.

The previous step also incorporates the studying of French vocabulary. Memory games are suitable as a method for keeping the names of objects and phenomena in long-term memory. In addition, flashcards can help memorize the words. These training tools will allow me to learn as many notions as possible since my visual memory works best. The attached website is a good source for obtaining new vocabulary and revising the learned material.

As a result, it is possible to reach level A2 of the French language by learning the language daily. The basic grammar, spelling, pronunciation, and speaking rules can be obtained within three months if exercising at least one hour a day. The primary methods to be used are lectures, demonstrations, and task-related activities, which can efficiently improve my competence in the French language.
