Academic Honesty and Plagiarism

Introduction

All three websites presented below contain information that each student needs to know. The absence of plagiarism develops critical thinking and an unconventional approach to tasks in the student. For this reason, academic integrity is integral to every educational institution. This paper discusses the information on the following websites, their good and bad parts, and their usefulness.

Discussion

The first website of the Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs is titled Avoiding Plagiarism: Mastering the Art of Scholarship. As the title indicates, this website provides a guideline for students to avoid plagiarism. This site describes in detail the extreme importance of academic integrity. (OSSJA, 2022). First, the site is designed to make it convenient for students to read and find the necessary information. Each new information is titled under specific topics. For example, without reading the entire article, one can immediately find information about plagiarism and its importance (OSSJA, 2022). The most important issues are highlighted in bolder colors so the reader can navigate faster, and this is a good part of the website. Among the disadvantages, there is no information about the destruction of personal and academic growth by plagiarism. Thus, it would be more apparent to the reader that plagiarism is wrong for others and the person himself or herself.

Another website on the topic of academic integrity is the ACADIA University Library website. The site has an exciting name: You Quote It, You Note It, which attracts readers. The website talks about how to quote the used sources. The good side is written information in simple words. For example, the authors do not say why it is necessary to quote the information taken in academic or scientific terms. Instead, they explain in simple words that it is imperative to mention and indicate the authors. For example, if the used information was not in one’s mind, then he or she must cite the author (ACADIA, 2022). However, it is necessary to scroll all the time to reach the next information, which is the website’s disadvantage.

The last website is from Northern Illinois University with the title Academic Integrity Tutorials. Here are tutorials for improving academic integrity. At the very beginning, the website informs about the purpose of this tutorial at the very beginning, which allows readers not to waste time in case this is not what he or she needs. In addition, the tutorial is provided separately for both students and teachers. After each piece of information, a quiz is given to consolidate the material (Illinois, 2019). It is a massive advantage for the site, as a lot of the data can be forgotten by the reader. However, with the help of a quiz, one can verify their knowledge. In addition, the site provides information about the consequences of violating academic integrity. There are no disadvantages found on the website.

Conclusion

In conclusion, three websites provide information about the importance of academic integrity and plagiarism’s consequences for the educational institution and the person. However, weighing all the cons and pros of the three websites the most helpful website will be the third, which has no cons. Compared to the first two, the third site provides more useful information. In addition, a quiz is given here to consolidate the material read. In general, all three sites promote the importance of academic integrity.
