Critical thinking for nursing students is one of the principal abilities ensuring their future success. Its importance is conditional upon the connection between such a skill and evidence-based practice that helps to develop strategies (“Why is evidence-based practice important,” 2018). In the article, Cui et al. (2018) examine the interrelation between these two concepts. The researchers claim that it is vital to assess critical thinking in nursing students participating in EBN teaching mode to trace its overall impact (Cui et al., 2018). The conducted meta-analysis provides nursing educators with comprehensive information on how to improve their courses for developing critical thinking skills among students in the process.
In order to do it, the researchers reviewed the previous publications on critical thinking and evidence-based practice in nursing. The selection process allowed them to use nine scholarly sources for the analysis (Cui et al., 2018). The studies under consideration were different in terms of used measuring instruments but similar in consideration of the evidence-based teaching method as an intervention group (Cui et al., 2018). According to the analysis’ outcome, the traditional approaches to the studying process implied a significant degree of one’s dependence on a teacher (Cui et al., 2018). This conclusion allowed assuming that the situation might result in nurses’ future inability to make independent decisions, especially in emergencies (Cui et al., 2018). Therefore, by conducting this study, the researchers emphasized the importance of critical skills development for nursing students with the help of the EBP teaching method.
