The dean of education, also referred to as the dean of students, is one of the most important positions in the middle school setting. This is primarily due to the dean of education’s role in the student’s learning process and activities (“Middle school dean job description,” n.d.). This essay will focus on the responsibilities associated with this position and the role it plays in students’ learning processes and extracurricular activities.
First, the dean of students is responsible for creating student programs that are both engaging and educational. While developing these programs, they have to consider all the necessary educational requirements and regulations. Another responsibility associated with the dean’s position is communicating with students and their parents regularly about the activities and events occurring at school (“Middle school dean job description,” n.d.). This communication has to ensure effective and proactive development of goals to achieve in regard to the planned activities; therefore, the dean of students also has to have a set of well-developed communication skills. In addition, the position involves overseeing student council advisors and managing their cooperation based on the current students’ needs and the requirements of the school administration (“Middle school dean job description,” n.d.). In relation to various events organized at school, the dean of education is also responsible for helping and chaperoning. They also oversee the admission and application processes and manage various organizations and clubs created by the students.
It can be concluded, therefore, that the dean of education plays an extensive role in the middle school setting. The deans’ responsibilities include both the aspects of the student’s learning process and the activities they engage in outside of the classroom. Therefore, holding this position requires a wide range of important skills, including time management, effective leadership and communication skills, as well as personality traits such as patience and self-discipline.
