Literacy is a vital skill that people use throughout their lives. Therefore, teaching literacy is a sensitive task that can affect the lives of students and their ability to learn other skills. Effective literacy instruction is one of the central ways a teacher can influence the progress of students. In order to be successful, a teacher needs to understand literacy learning, know the standards, know their students as learners, use a flexible range of teaching strategies, and engage students in challenging content.
Effective literacy instruction depends on different aspects that cannot be learned in one day. The assignments included in the present project revealed that every reading or curriculum and instruction specialist needed to use a wide range of approaches depending on the individual needs of the students. Effective reading instruction requires careful assessment of the learners and their demands, detailed planning using appropriate techniques and literacy standards, continuous engagements with students during lessons, and attentive evaluation of results.
