Environmental Print Activity as Reading Exercise

Summary

The above environmental print poster is the “I Can Read” poster that has been created from environmental print icons. The environmental print activity is a reading exercise that helps kids in kindergarten learn how to read by interacting with the things they easily recognize and use around them (Erickson & Wharton‐McDonald, 2019). The environmental icons used are objects and signs that a young child sees every day. In the poster, the icons are arranged alphabetically, which also assists kids in memorizing the order of alphabetical letters. In a classroom, the environmental print poster aid in children’s literacy development. For a teacher to efficiently use the environment print activity, they should direct the children to create a similar poster with the environmental icons they have gathered on their own. Each student read for the class what they have created.
