I believe that because the FIU College Of Medicine was borne out of the necessity to fill in the medical staffing shortage of the country, it shall be on the cutting edge of medical training and offer the students 21st-century standard teaching methods. Even though FIU is a public university, I believe that it is among the top U.S. Medical schools because it offers the students a chance to put their theoretical knowledge to actual use as we are exposed to the medical, social, and ethical issues that the disadvantaged families of South Florida have to learn to deal with.
I am strongly impressed by the fact that FIU puts the community at the core of the teaching curricula. Furthermore, I believe that by exposing the students early on in our training to the depressed areas of society, we will learn the importance of giving back to our local communities daily. I do not think that will be hard to do because of the impressive partnership that FIU has long shared with medical institutions like the Mound Sinai Medical Center, Miami Children’s Hospital, and the Florida Department of Health.
Just like FIU, I believe that cultural sensitivity is one of the most important traits that a doctor of the future must be able to understand and muster if he is to be able to accurately analyze his patient’s state of health. Due to South Florida’s highly diverse demographic, I believe that FIU will be able to help me understand and develop that part of my character training as a doctor.
Among my plans as a physician is to practice medicine in the area where I completed my medical education as a way of paying back the community that helped me reach my goal in life. Therefore, through the help of the FIU community, I hope to be able to become a role model for future graduates of the university.
Hopefully, the university will be able to help me gain a highly diverse medical studies background thanks to the ever-growing diversity of the Florida population in general. I hope that as a physician, I will be able to integrate my understanding of the social norms of various nationalities in such a way that I will be able to continue to honor and respect their traditions which may come into direct conflict with my training as a medical doctor. With any luck, we will be able to help each other develop medically sound clinical researches to continue serving the medical needs of the region to the best of our abilities.
I look forward to spending time with the international student body of FIU which shall concentrate on the value of community medicine in a region which badly needs to raise its standards of medical care. It is of the utmost importance that the doctors of the future realize that all medical procedures in the future shall be centered upon community outreach medical programs. Most especially since the latest strains of illnesses seem to have a knack for affecting communities at large.
With a little bit of luck, I hope to become one of the pioneer graduates of this public university. As such, I have to admit that I am looking forward to leaving my mark in the medical world at the soonest possible time. I do not see how I can fail to do this. After all, FIU is the medical school of the future. Nothing is impossible when I put my mind to it. and with the help of FIU, that which seems impossible for a time shall be achievable in the future.
