Good Student vs. Bad Student: Comparison and Contrast

The question of good and bad students remains controversial and the most debated issue in academia. There are many stereotypical opinions about who is suitable for learning and who is not. This article reflects the view that all is not so unequivocal on this issue and therefore requires further analysis. The “good” student tries as much as possible to saturate his paper with references to other people’s documents that the “bad” students have written. Even “bad” students do this because the “good” instructor, who was once a “good” student, demands it. However, the “bad” students do this for appearances because they know that their work, if it contains many references to other authors, is no longer their work. “Good” students are always good; “bad” students are always wrong; this is one of the central stereotypes. “Good” students try to break down and refute the ideas of “bad” students. However, there is a paradox: the “bad” students are indifferent to the “good.” They are not afraid of regular tests and exams like the “good” ones; they have different goals, and the diploma is only a side and unnecessary side. “Good” students can perfectly repeat the thoughts and ideas of other, more authoritative authors. They can use these quotes in any worldly situation to supposedly prove their point. “Bad” ones, on the other hand, take the position that knowing and reading the works of famous authors is necessary, but it should make them try to think for themselves. Such students never stop learning; they read books, reflect on them, and draw conclusions but often have a rare aversion to formal learning.
