Shaping a favorable attitude toward writing can positively influence many other areas of life. Previously, I thought that writing was just a tool for expressing one’s opinions and thoughts and delivering them to readers. However, after the course, I learned that writing could also be used as a way of self-reflection and self-expression just for the sake of it, without the need to share it with anyone (Nordquist, 2019). Establishing one’s style of writing and developing the approaches that fit one’s personality and life goals will become a crucial tool for creating one’s future in a personal, professional, and educational career. Knowing how to write and develop one’s style can illuminate unique qualities and values. For instance, connecting one’s experiences of oppression and privilege in writing can show how an individual’s personal values and beliefs have been shaped. Besides, knowing how to write is vital for both educational and professional lives because good writing is beneficial for persuading others, which is essential to goal accomplishments.
Since writing encourages self-reflection and recalling events that occurred previously, it can be used as a tool to learn about oneself and other people. For example, analyzing the way in which I reacted to a particular situation, including the feelings, emotions, and takeaways, is illustrative of one’s personality, and the same applies to reflections on other people. In terms of areas that need to improve in the future, avoiding excessive tangents that do not align with the topic being discussed is recommended. While drawing from personal experiences is imperative to writing, their recollections should not be long and off-topic, which is something that should improve further.
