Media and Computer Technology in Learning

Computers and media technology are becoming more prevalent and critical tools for educating children. For instance, interactive technology features ingrained in electronic storybooks enhance readers’ comprehension and vocabulary while engaging with familiar media personalities to help children learn new content and regulate emotions. However, it is crucial for parents and content creators to distinguish acceptable content and its appropriate use to impact children’s learning potential and skills. Case studies evaluated by Blagojevic et al. (3) on how young children surrounded by technology can enhance their storytelling abilities and explore new opportunities find that children benefit from various skills and means of expression when exploring a computer. However, a “less is more” approach to introducing computers to young children should be adopted to provide the appropriate level of challenge to every learner.

Early learning teachers need to comprehend how computer-assisted learning influences children’s education to optimize performance, learn and adopt the most appropriate approaches. Ruggiero (2) highlights that for media and computer technologies to enhance children’s learning and development skills, they should be used appropriately and contain helpful content. Therefore, the topic will enable early learning teachers to research the impact of media on learning, learn how to create children’s media content and collaborate with content creators to enhance media learning.

As a practicing teacher, this information acknowledges the growing influence of computers and media technology on the future of early learning methods and approaches. The readings have substantially enlightened me on the skills appropriate to computer-assisted learning and the necessity of partaking in more empirical research about the topic. Ultimately, the information has proven that computer-assisted education improves cognitive, linguistic, emotional, and literacy skills among early learners.
