Introduction
In the modern world, people often discuss the place and nature of the education system in the life of society and the state. On the one hand, providing educational services is an expensive undertaking, and the work of teachers should be adequately paid. On the other hand, education is a need of modern society. Without affordable, high-quality professional education, it is impossible to imagine the functioning of the contemporary type of economy. I believe college education in the US should be tuition-free because it significantly benefits society, the economy, and people.
Discussion
First, for a long time in its history, the United States has been striving to eliminate the vestiges of racism, sexism, and other manifestations of social inequality. Education is one of the most important social elevators and predictors of success. By making college education chargeable, society deprives many poor people, minorities, and people with disabilities of the opportunity to change their social status. This is contrary to the spirit of The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, which approved the desire to empower students with education to break the cycle of poverty (American Government, 2021). If American society is to achieve equity, it must begin to provide equal opportunities without being based on class or race.
Secondly, student debt is becoming a big problem and a burden on the economy. Young people graduating from college with educational loans are forced to be limited in finances for many years. Starting to work, they are forced to pay debt and income tax, which is a minimum of 10% (American Government, 2021). Such an economic burden is unbearable for a young specialist and limits his ability to arrange his own life and life. This immediately leads to two negative consequences – postponing the establishment of a family and children and reducing the ability to stimulate the economy.
Conclusion
In summary, a free college education is an expensive investment for the state. However, it has many positive effects that influence the development of society. Free education enhances opportunities for equality and improves social mobility. Moreover, it allows young people to enter adult social and economic life without debt, limiting their options.
