Social Skills in Higher Education

Nowadays, social skills have become an integral part of any area of people’s lives. They help communicate effectively with people, improve the quality of this communication, empathize with people, and interact with them. Qualitative studies consider specific people in specific situations. Such aspects as the everyday interaction of people, which is studied from the point of view of social or cultural discourse, are considered. In this question, people who receive higher education are considered. The author describes groups of students of different classes studying in a particular Engineering course. The question states the approach used by the authors and uses various terminology indicating a qualitative study of the chosen field.

The article describes social skills in higher education, according to which the appropriate terminology is used. The research problem is that not all students are ready to work actively in a team when interacting with each other. The problem is justified because students lack enough social skills that would help them work effectively in a group, which requires adjustments in some areas of study. The author provides a large amount of information from various sources, scientific journals, and articles. The data used by the author is not relevant, as some are already outdated. The research work corresponds to a qualitative study since the author uses various fields of study in which the use of a qualitative approach is introduced to increase the ability of students to interact with each other.

The study aims to introduce a system of teaching social skills in the teaching of students and to track their reactions. The goal is entirely consistent with the research problem; that is, a group of engineering students is taken, and social skills training is introduced to them. The approach was to form groups of students and assign them the joint execution of the project. The qualitative approach is indicated in the chapter introduction. This approach is implicitly stated in the text, but the research and conclusions well justify it. The inclusion/exclusion criteria are not sufficiently explained in the text.

The samples were selected in accordance with the stated goals; that is, students were selected, who were then formed into groups. The research and implementation chosen by the author were done correctly. The sampling strategy is based on the students in 2017-2018, making the selection relevant. The authors included their achievements and identified them because their approach was successfully implemented in training and demonstrated its effectiveness.
