Summary

Analyzing the selected instructional decisions, it is possible to assume that they meet the basic goals of the wellness lesson. A healthy lifestyle is a complex and extremely important aspect needed to ensure that people will remain healthy and avoid traumas. The given topic is also vital for children aged 5, as they have limited ideas of dangers or habits that might precondition the development of undesired outcomes. For this reason, the class presupposes using mostly visual images and conversations to engage children in dialogue and make sure they are interested in the topic. For instance, the use of pictures of traumas or children with problems might make students think about risks they might face in their everyday lives.

At the same time, asking open questions and yes/no questions is a good strategy to guarantee that all children will participate in the discussion and be ready to show their knowledge of the most important of a healthy lifestyle. It is critically important to avoid giving information that is too difficult for this category. For this reason, being in contact with the audience by asking questions is vital for the overall success of the whole lesson and students’ ability to accept and process information provided to them.

Finally, the provided homework is suitable for that age as it affects both their creative skills and, at the same time, helps to actualize and structure knowledge they acquired at the lesson. For this reason, it seems an effective strategy to end the class and ensure that experience is generated.

Welcome statement

Dear parents and children!

We now all know that a healthy lifestyle is important, and we all have to be ready to follow it. However, sometimes it can be difficult to understand what is healthy and what actions can make us ill or cause pain to us. For this reason, we should know about how to remain healthy and happy. In the next several minutes, we will learn how to live happily and how to avoid serious traumas or diseases, which is very important for children and parents.

Opening activity

Children and parents act in teams. The first game is to introduce a good mood and guarantee that all are ready to structure information and use the acquired knowledge. The teams have to distinguish good and bad habits from the provided images. The easy task will make them understand the basic idea of the event and prepare for the next phase, which is the wellness activity. It will take about 10 minutes regarding the amount of time needed for every family to cope with the task.

Wellness activity

Wellness activity is designed to teach both parents and children about the basics of a healthy lifestyle. All teams work together. The major idea is to cooperate, share knowledge, and learn in this way. They have to select images of activities from the list that might promote the wellbeing of a child and link them to a particular part of the body or lifestyle. It is done by sticking an image to a figure of a person drawn on the blackboard. Every choice should be explained by a small speech from a student or a parent.

Closing activity

The closing activity presupposes another repetition of all information and its discussion. The teams are asked to ask questions to each other and share their expressions of the games they played. Children also have to participate by offering their views and ideas on how such activities can be more interesting to them. It will help to summarize all information acquired during the event and prepare for another one that will also contribute to the improved vision of the problem.
