“Patterns”: Teaching Colors and Combinations

The recorded video is a lesson created for a pre-kindergarten class to teach the colors and their combinations. While performing this task, the students are expected to learn to recognize the colors and how they can be put together in order to make patterns. During this time, the children follow the pre-determined steps explained by the teacher and, consequently, work individually with her assistance to master the skills.

In the beginning, the students write their names, and their attention afterward is drawn to colorful snap cubes, which can be taken apart to change the order of pieces. They are apparently interested in these objects and seem willing to participate in the activity. At first, they struggle to concentrate on the explanations; however, this part is designed to be quite short in order for them to regain focus and engage with the items (Ruiz, 2022).

In the continuation of the lesson, the learners are given two snap cubes each and asked to create their own patterns, following the teacher’s example shown previously (Ruiz, 2022). Some of them perform the task faster than others, and this difference is compensated for in two ways. Thus, the children who are ready to draw their patterns are asked to show what they have made, and those who are slower to assemble the pieces are provided with timely assistance. As a result, this method helps coordinate the work of all participants while equally involving everyone in the activity.

To summarize, the lesson, which includes pattern demonstration, individual assignments to repeat the task, and drawings, is efficient for achieving the goal of promoting everyone’s skills. The assistance of the teacher is invaluable for addressing the needs of students with varying abilities and knowledge and helping them develop. Thus, it can be concluded that the organization of this class is effective, and distractions are minimized for the benefit of all children.
