Pragmatic Interaction and Play in Young Children

Introduction

Children acquire many skills and knowledge that help them express their thoughts and feelings with age. They receive the ability to maintain a conversation, fulfill requests and instructions, and communicate more actively with each other through role-playing games. The environment also significantly impacts children’s development, such as interacting with other children and adults and playing various educational games. Children acquire new skills and skills they need for further development. Although all children develop differently, pragmatic interaction is necessary for every child.

Pragmatics and role-playing games for children

Watching the video, it can be understood that older children already know how to support the topic, can use the acquired knowledge, as well as fulfill direct and indirect requests. In a video called Mrs. Kilmer’s 4yr old class Playtime (2:50-9:38), a girl and a boy communicate with each other through a role-playing game and support this topic for quite a long time. Children actively share with adults; for example, when a man asks a question to one child, other children willingly support conversations, talking about their lives or stories.

Conditional speech is more vividly demonstrated in the video Last Day At His First School since very young children were filmed there. For them, exclamations or the tone of the speech of an adult will be more understandable than any more complex speech constructions (Owens, 2020). Requests and instructions are shown in videos with older children, as they are more receptive to adult requests and are ready to follow instructions. The environment helps pragmatics because people actively communicate with each other and adopt each other’s experiences and knowledge. Additional strategies can be specifically defined in role-playing games in which each child will be given a specific role and situational task. In this way, children will be able to imagine themselves in certain roles, express themselves and communicate with each other.

Conclusion

In conclusion, working with children through pragmatics and role-playing games will help them develop and improve as effectively as possible. Through these techniques, children will be able to communicate and playfully interact with each other, which is very important. There are many different technologies that contribute to the development of children at diverse ages that need to be put into practice in a timely manner.
