“The Silenced Dialogue” by Lisa D. Delpit: Main Question and Its Solution

The article was written by Lisa D. Delpit, an American researcher and a specialist in educational sciences. The question that she addressed revolves around the possibility of communicating ideas related to learning among cultures without bias and issues of power. Hence, the purpose of Delpit’s (1988) research was to make sure that the voices of minority populations would be heard. It may be hard to determine how one could help children of color or families from poor neighborhoods without letting them speak out loud. Similar ideas can be found reiterated in Delpit’s (1992) investigation on how the cultural clash between schools and students could be resolved. Over the course of her discussion of the problem, Delpit (1988) makes it clear that teachers are the perfect people for the job since they have all the opportunities to initiate a constructive dialog.

Delpit’s (1988) standpoint on the issue of connecting teachers and students coming from various cultural backgrounds stems from the fact that many individuals simply do not pay attention to problems around them. Consequently, the framework proposed by the author requires the minority populations to recognize their power and become more confident in terms of raising questions (Delpit, 1988; Delpit, 1992). On the one hand, the author took on the inherent lack of voice that affected people of color and claimed that it had to be replaced with a newer, much more flexible educational agenda. On the other hand, Delpit (1988) accurately depicted the majority of issues characteristic of the educational system and provided valuable insights on how minority populations could be empowered further. The educational realm requires teachers, parents, and children to collaborate in order to develop a lucrative coalescence and get rid of the most tenacious biases and challenges.
