In general, on the basis of the comparison of visions of Mt. Edgecumbe High School and Plano West Senior High School, it is possible to say that they both emphasize the significance of knowledge, excellence, success, and all community members’ involvement in the education process. Mt. Edgecumbe High School located in Alaska believes that knowledge should be obtained in the most appropriate way and to the fullest extent. Plano West Senior High School believes that knowledge, thinking, and critical skills are essential in the modern multi-cultural society contributing to the appreciation of human worth, diversity, and dignity. In addition, according to the school’s vision, education is a highly dynamic process that should prepare students for life-long learning and striving for excellence.
Plano West Senior High School believes that all students may achieve success in education following the instructional program that allows them to grow both academically and intellectually. At the same time, the school emphasizes the significance of cooperative efforts among the staff, students, their parents, and the whole community and every member’s personal contribution to the education process (“About our school,” n.d.). Moreover, the school addresses strong values, morals, and traditions as the basis of productivity and success. Mt. Edgecumbe High School shares the same vision in relation to people’s involvement – according to it, all people, students and staff, are committed to excellence in the educational process and engaged in learning finding joy and satisfaction in its pursuit. In addition, as an innovative community, Mt. Edgecumbe High School may be regarded as a family where all members are also bound by strong common values and traditions (“Mission & vision,” n.d.). It focuses on learners’ excellence in all forms and defines students’ success as its top priority.
According to Plano West Senior High School’s mission, it is responsible for a safe and nurturing environment essential for students’ success in learning. In addition, the school emphasizes its role in the formation of students’ ability to contribute to a modern diverse society with integrity and compassion. At the same time, Mt. Edgecumbe High School does not focus on the peculiarities of the modern world. However, believes that by obtaining knowledge and committing to excellence in the learning process people will be able to create or find better ways of their goals’ achievement in the future. In turn, Plano West Senior High School believes that society and a global environment are changing, and education is essential for students’ awareness and ability to learn reaching excellence.
