My Future as a Human Services Professional

Introduction

As a human service professional, I am driven by the urge to assist individuals in performing at an optimal level through the counseling skills I possess. I am well versed with human development, cultural impact on human conduct, and economic influence on anthropoid thinking. However, there are various interventions that I employ while undertaking my duties. The counseling interventions are pegged on the capacity to arrange my interposition scheme, accomplishment, and assessment of the victories or non-successes of the plans I accomplish in my responsibility. By utilizing my expertise along with my traits, in the form of oratory, and administrative skills, I am always able to assist my clients in achieving their aims. Indeed, my future as a human services professional is promising and full of rich expectations as I have a clear view of the job requirements. Accordingly, I will be able to serve my clients with great passion as I am equipped to handle their predicaments.

Population to Be Served Through Counseling in Learning Institutions

I have a passion for working with young adults in learning institutions, and that is why I want to serve them as a counselor by assessing their development needs. Besides, my psychological counseling will enable the pupils and students to fulfill their developmental potential and create favorable conditions for full participation in their school life (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Most importantly, my professional guidance will enable the students to acknowledge their strengths, weaknesses, hobbies, and talents (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Consequently, this enhances the growth of students and pupils to mature, responsible individuals.

In the future, I want to work with learning institutions to be able to access students. Through recreation and study programs, I will be able to identify the unique abilities of students. My career interventions will enable each student to make an occupational choice during their college sessions (Sauerheber et al., 2016). If it is established that students need special educational aid due to their difficulties, an alternative school setting is recommended to cater to those needs (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Practically, the students’ competencies will only be recognized and nurtured well if they are identified at the learning institutions.

Historical, Present, and Future Issues Related to Counseling of Students

One of the significant historical issues related to college students is racism. In the United States, this form of prejudice impacts how learners relate to one another and has caused student unrest in learning institutions (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Racism is studied through historical events or life experiences. After learning about their social differences, some students decided to act on the dissimilarities through racial prejudice, and this ignited anger in those who were victims of the discrimination (Sauerheber et al., 2016). As a counselor, evaluating the students’ social behavior and providing the required psychological support could have averted the situation.

Students are facing many challenges, and this has affected my organization and my job as well. Covid-19 has instilled the fear of contracting the disease among students. The students are therefore disallowing people near them as they maintain social distance. Consequently, the need for psychological counseling for students has immensely reduced. Moreover, some young learners engage in destructive relationships with friends and acquire different lifestyles and moral values (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Depending on the attachment of the friendships, the accepted negative behaviors have become difficult to control (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Sophisticated strategies are therefore required to mitigate the current challenges faced by the students.

Many human service professionals agree that societal issues affect their occupations and clients. Poverty is most likely to increase the rate of school drop-outs in the future (Davys & Beddoe, 2020). Furthermore, the future of counseling is at stake as far the technological advancement in students’ lives is concerned (Davys & Beddoe, 2020). Students’ love for technology will probably distract them from the counselors’ advice and physiotherapy sessions, both at home or school; with increasing poverty and technological advancement, counseling practice and the related organization risk being rendered useless.

How I Might Be Supervised In Work Place and the Effective Working Relationship

It seems to me that a more helpful system of supervision will focus on making the student-counselor relationship work effectively. I will need to be provided with the essential requirements such as manipulates, sticky notes, a computer, file holders, and a set of computer games on a play station. I prefer to be supervised by the report submission methodology (Davys & Beddoe, 2020). I will appreciate a situation where I prepare periodic reports on my interactions with different clients and send them to my supervisor. The report submission method of supervision will ensure that the confidentiality of clients’ information is regarded highly.

Working relationships with my colleagues at the workplace will be useful. I will flourish trust by protecting confidence and steering clear of gossiping (Furman et al., 2020). Additionally, I will collaborate with other colleagues on projects which call for group planning and implementation. I will communicate well with other co-workers by listening keenly and speaking audibly. Lastly, according to respect to other colleagues, I will examine their opinions regardless of my position on them (Furman et al., 2020). Indeed, the application of trust, teamwork, communication, and respect will automatically result in a positive working relationship with my other workers.

Maintaining effective relationships between service providers and clients is a key component of client management. I will define my expectations from them and theirs, too, from me, at the beginning of the interactive session. I will specifically address mutual respect and total commitment to the counseling session (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Again, I will stick to my professional ethos. In cases where there are misdemeanors, I will remain assertive and let the students know that they misbehave (Sauerheber et al., 2016). Correctly, my clients’ healthy boundaries will ensure that I offer the best counseling services while maintaining a professional code of conduct.

Rather than providing counseling services to clients, my future prospective organization might offer assistance such as rehabilitation and career guidance. Reformation in itself employs counseling to enable those with physical disabilities to adapt to their hindrances and build on their strengths (Furman et al., 2020). Professional guidance interacts with counseling through psychological intervention to develop problem-solving skills concerning occupation choices (Sauerheber al., 2016). Undoubtedly, the association between counseling practice and rehabilitation or vocational guidance in schools is based on providing individuals with advice to realize their potential.

My Service Delivery Objectivities

My future clients will be students and pupils, therefore forming a larger part of the community. For effective counseling, I will practice in my students’ neighborhoods, their parents’ abodes, and the health facilities. Within the communities, I will offer trauma education to institutions such as daycare centers to assist the facilitators in understanding abrasion sequel in infants. This will be an indirect service to my clients by mitigating the adverse effects of contusion at their early ages.

The effects of my services will be felt on the global front. I shall address the need for gender equality in schools and learning institutions (Davys & Beddoe, 2020). I shall empower the students by educating them on their rights, especially the entitlement to access education. This will reduce the bias that has been there against women on matters related to teaching. Moreover, I endeavor to teach the children effective healthcare practices to cater to global child health and help eradicate malnutrition in children (Davys & Beddoe, 2020). Unquestionably, my efforts in counseling pupils and students shall play a significant role in increasing their abilities to live more highly functioning lives.

Comparison between My Current and Future Human Services Organizations

Presently, I work as a psychiatrist in a mental hospital, and I look forward to working as a counselor in a learning institution. There are similarities which are in the medical setup of service delivery and the counseling of students. Firstly, both organizations assist people in optimizing the functioning of their abilities (Furman et al., 2020). Secondly, they rely on an organized market environment for required funding and approval and therefore employ inter-organizational association and competition (Furman et al., 2020). Thirdly, the structuring of their service programs and their aids is indeterminate and requires an ethical application (Furman et al., 2020). Inarguably, the similarities in the organizations place my career as an essential human service occupation.

Despite the similarities which exist between the organizations, some differences can also be outlined. The organization I currently work with gets its revenues primarily from private funding and health insurance premiums paid by the patients’ families (Furman et al., 2020). On the other hand, schools’ source of revenue is public funding from the government (Furman et al., 2020). Additionally, the hospital refers to the people whom we serve as the patients, while the school counseling cites the students who receive solacing services as clients (Furman et al., 2020). The more useful model of human ministrations agency tends to be the solution paradigm employed by learning institutions.

Conclusion

To sum, delivering on my duties as a counselor will depend on the goals of the profession and the impacts I effect on the consoling vocation. My drive to work in a learning institution is based on the passion I have for working with students. Historically, I will analyze an issue like racism which impeded social integration in schools. The present-day issues such as the break out of the Covid-19 pandemic have affected the solacing profession. As I need to continue offering my counseling services, I prefer to be supervised through the formulation of reports and submitting them to the supervisors within a team frame. I need to work through the communities of my clients to teach daycare facilitators to deal with trauma in the children. However, an examination of the comparison of the human services agencies leads to the preference for counseling in learning institutions as a viable career option. Indeed, the human services profession as a counselor is a job that is worth pursuing.
